BurnOn Web Content

Content Lead Role

The role of the Content Lead should be to identify, solicit and edit appropriate content for the BurnOn.ca website.

Content Scope

  • The content appearing on the BurnOn.ca should appeal to several target audiences.
  • The BurnOn.ca website should cater to the major Burning Man communities in Ontario, including Toronto, Ottawa and London, with some regional-specific information.
  • Content should serve the community and shaped to a degree by its members.
  • The information should also be targeting the two major groups accessing the site: people who are already involved in the community, and people who want to learn more about Burning Man and the regional community.

Quality Assurance

All content should aim to be accessible to everyone, clearly written, be professional, W3C Compliant, and as inclusive as possible.

Methodology

Set-up

  • The potential organization/taxonomy of the website will be reviewed by a small team of people and the recommendations made as to the function and flow of the new website.
  • Relevent content present on the current website will be reviewed, edited and reused where appropriate.
  • New content requirements will be identified, and requests for submissions will be requested. All submitted content will be reviewed for various items, and then uploaded to the website.

Ongoing

  • Solicit and integrate new content on an ongoing basis.
  • Solicit and screen additional volunteers to act as editors to approve the new material and to eliminate a single point of error should the Content Lead become inaccessible.
  • Correct errors that are identified by the general membership of the website.

Special Notes Regarding Editing

Editing in this context can be difficult, as some people may perceive that the role of an editor will become the role of a censor. It should be clear that content should only be edited for spelling, obvious grammatical errors, and other items which do not change the tone and message of the written work. While the use of plain language will be encouraged, submissions will not be heavily edited nor rejected for failing to comply with this point. Submissions that violate the Canadian Criminal Code will be rejected outright.
